SVA Failed Welds
With the mentions of welding it made me wonder if anyone has failed on their welding and had to restart? Does anyone have any pictures of an SVA
failed weld? Just wondering.

i'm not sure where i've read it, but i'm reasonably sure it said the 917 was bronze fillet welded.
i don't know what that should look like, but i don't think you're looking at mig on that chassis.

I remember a comment that it might have been an ally chassis, but it doesn't look like it to me. If it was bronze welded it's just as
bad/worse.
This is what well done bronze welding should look like:

Hmm, yeah. Anyone on here ever failed because of it then, would be soul destroying to have to go back to the start eh?

would be worse if it passed and your car dropped to bits and killed someone......
i'm reasonably confident of my welding, but it's the reason i bought a chassis

im sure in the past we've all done welds like that but you would take your mask (or blindfold!) off, realise you completely missed and try
again!

In theory no-one can fail on welds, it's the DESIGN that is being tested not the execution. You should be able to pass on completely bald tyres
as long as the speed rating is correct for the designated design speed, equally even if the welds are not even touching you should pass - stupid but
that is government for you
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I'm afraid with respect to welding that is incorrect, they certainly have the power to fail if the weld makes the car unsafe.
Check out 15.1.1 in the SVA manual.
1. Check all aspects of the design and construction
of the vehicle or its equipment are such that no
danger is caused or likely to be caused to any
person in the vehicle or to other road users.

Joel, I'm glad you admitted to it too. I have done a few welds like that in the past but as you say its fairly obvious and you start again. A
combination of rushing and frustration, something I've said I'd always walk away from it all for the day if I felt I was rushing or owt.
Does it not say in the manual somewhere about checking welds as a messy one is rarely a (strong/effective) one or have I read that elsewhere?

I've failed on the first test, my fault as i did a 1/2" of weld with no gas
I didn't correct it when it first happened and just kept missing it until the test, took less than 5 min to correct.
ATB Dan.
The less I worked, the more i liked it.
