welder power question

this would make a whole lot of sense if i got this wrong...

its the clarke 151te welder, in order of lowest to highest does it go

1) low 1, low 2, low 3, high 1, high 2, high 3?

or

2) low 1, high 1, low 2, high 2, low 3, high 3?

i always assumed number 2, but i have doubts

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

It seems I have been using mine incorrectly for sometime ie min 1 max 1 etc.

But and more worrying is that one of us (Paul) has been reading the manual as opposed to throwing it out with the rest of the packaging.

Yet more proof that reading manuals is the wrong thing to do

I've had this for ages - the problem appears to be some manuals have different answers to others.

I'm under the impression its back to front. The switch on the right is the 'main' switch and the switch on the left adjusts the power of the main switch.

eg,

low 1
high 1
low 2
high 2
low 3
high 3

I agree with "MikeR" but if in doubt test on a piece of scap for penetration. I've been using a "Clarke 151 TE" for years this way and have not had any problems with it.

yep i thought its that way, and the way i'd tried using it. i was trying to weld something a months back, and 3 min didn't seem to have the same impact as 2 max, but everything else worked as i though. i'd never seen the wiring diagrams in the manual online before, and that suggests it works this way (although i doubt the drawing of the transformer is really accurate... otherwise 1 max is the same as 2 min?)

but then this just fries my waffles

but seeing the tests carried out by people on mig-welding confirms what i thoght cheers!
