Polishing aluminium

My new windscreen frame is made of the usual aluminium extrusions. At the moment it has a good surface (no significant dents, etc) but has the sort of finish you get after rubbing it down with a scotchbrite pad or similar - feels smooth, but has fine scratches.

I want to give this a bit of a polish-up before I fit the glass so that there's little work to do afterwards.

Apart from rubbing it down with the finest paper that I've got (VERY fine!) - can I use a mop and polish in my hand drill to finish it off? If so, what sort of polish would work?

David its buffed with the polishing mop. I think its the fine one. if you want polished get ordinary hand soap and the finest water paper you can get 1200?
Then use sovol autosol and that should bring it up fine

We always used Brasso to clean and polish the Alu wheels on the race cars - brought them up a treat.

I should add that I'm not looking for a mirror finish - just a bit shinier that the matt finish I've got at the moment.

I'll have to experiment...
