Pro tools pipe bender

Right, looking seriously at getting one now.........

Anybody bent any exhaust tubing with one??

Just wondered if they will put fairly gentle (say 25-30 degree) bends into 1.6mm wall stainless 2" tube without kinking it?

I need it for rollcage work mainly, but could justify the grand of outlay more easily if I can do exhaust system bends as well.

PS on that note, anybody know if 2.5" dies are available?

There are 2.5" dies available for the JD2 model 32 pipe bender. It is similar to the pro tool bender.

It is also quit easy to make a bender yourself. Than you only have to buy the dies. I even have the drawings of a similar bender.

This guy has seen it do the 2" thin stuff
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=125247&page=1

2" is the biggest die set available for the protools 105 bender, but there is a very heavy duty version 105B which is hydraulic and can bend up to 2.5"

Cheers

Had a go on one of these today.

Quite fiddly, but works very well indeed.
The owner specifically asked me to point out that he thought long and hard (about 25 years long, to be precise) before springing the cash for this as he's very much a locoster through and through.
It is an investment, but there isn't a better way to do it if your doing it youself.

Thanks folks, all replies great! Believe me I have thought long and hard about this one, as I much prefer to make it myself, but these are actually pretty good value.

To top it off, Matt "Stakesy" In Leicester (So I can nip over and pick it up) is importing them and doing the bender with stand, degree ring, extension handle etc etc etc plus a die set for £799 no vat, so with a couple more die sets around a grand should do the trick.

Having recently got a bit of a bargain on a 3 phase guillotine and 4ft folder I think I can justify the outlay though, I hope! (still can't afford it, just can justify it lol)
