can anyone enlighten me as to what size hole i should drill if i want to tap it out to m6x1.0? Im guessing 4.8 or 5mm? Are there charts for these things? Cheers!

Get yourself A Zeus book off ebay, coat about 4.50. They are invaluable when doing this sort of stuff. Can't seem to put a link in though.

It should actually be 4.8mm as the thread angle is 60 degrees. Luckily, 4.8mm = 3/16" so it's quite easy to find a drill this size in one of the rusty old tool boxes that you have kicking under the bench!

Saying that, 5mm should be ok.....

i have 4.8 in the box anyway, and i think ive lost my 5mm one!

Was at rufforth autojumble last month and i saw a box of 40 bits from 6 to 10mm in 0.1mm increments, i was so tempted
