Looks mighty impressive, but wheres the beer fridge?

big_wasa - 17/5/06 at 09:19 PM

Yep going to have a clean up tomorrow

jamesbond007ltk - 17/5/06 at 09:34 PM

i have just moved my car into a 'clean room'it was originally made for the manufacturer of cd-rom making equipment. i.e., if i fired up the a/c it will generate a dust free environment. not so clean these days though, but big. and i have the essential hifi and microwave! Strewth!

jamesbond007ltk - 17/5/06 at 09:39 PM

well, its been on farms, in barns outside! etc. for a while now and i told my neighbour (who works at the place i am now renting) that i wanted somewhere clean and secure. Think he took it a bit too literally!

graememk - 17/5/06 at 09:42 PM

i did carpet my garage the other week lol, easy to keep clean with my £3 hoover from a car boot

jamesbond007ltk - 17/5/06 at 09:45 PM

Also have a Lay-Z-Boy recliner that my mum was going to chuck out as it is huge and no longer used! perfect for those times of thought and desperation!

Ah the cheap hoover.. one of the more essential tools... hoover up the swarf as you go... saves it getting in the sole of your boot then taking it in the house and scratching the floor... Winds my missus up something chronic

Under the work bench - see red arrow. Also under there is a crossflow, 4 speed box and tumble drier.... Rescued attachment Cramped2.jpg

Do what does the dryer spin to and in what gear? Isn't it easier to just use an electric motor instead of a 1960's designed engine? How many spins to the gallon do you get?

owelly - 18/5/06 at 12:37 AM

My garage is fairly cosy. It has two massive TV's (too big for the house), a beer fridge. Kettle. Tumble dryer. Four cars. and another two storeys that have yet to be filled. I'd love to post a piccy but I 'd rather not invite the wrong sort of visitors!

donut - 18/5/06 at 06:19 AM

Pretty tight but i'm having (ANOTHER!!) clearout this weekend.

This is where I worked for years and built all my cars.........

This is a Reliant Kitten which a really small car.

I now have a 30m2 garage.

The secret is to have the garage as a workshop and NOT a store room!

John

MikeR - 18/5/06 at 06:35 PM

problem for me is i have to store my car bits / tools / steel / wood somewhere and the garage is the only place.

Just get jelous / desponant when i see all the huge places then wander into my garage and have to move 10 things to do one job.

chris.russell - 18/5/06 at 06:48 PM

Mines long and thin, but it does the job (the garage!!) and it lacks the all important beer fridge, boo hoo.

The shed on the back is now the store room, had to build a ramp to get the ride on lawn mower in there though for me dad. Also the workshop are as the bench an everything else is out there too.
My original plan was to build another workshop round the back, thankfuly the old man relented which saved me some money I could spend on the Indy

JB - 20/5/06 at 07:36 AM

If you have to use you garage as a store the secret is to maximise your space. So keep the lower 1.5 metres clear and store things high on the walls. If the garage is long and thin then you need more width so store things at the end.

I was so obsessed with having space I used to store most of my car in my bedroom!! So I was for ever carrying the new / clean parts up and down the stairs. My bed was also higher than normal beacause I figured that the space above the bed was wasted and more space underneath would be good for storage!

The worst part is when you have to strip down for final clean up and paint, then you have so many bits. Fortunately my parents went away a lot so I could use the dining room to store everything!

NS Dev - 20/5/06 at 11:51 AM

Not too cosy, very cold in winter, but got a propane space heater now which helps a touch!!

cosier in terms of space than it should be, due to lots of big items that don't really move (lathe, bandsaw, tig, benches etc etc!!)

[img][/img]

MikeR - 20/5/06 at 01:03 PM

of course what you can't see is it extends a good few feet further behind him and its got attic space!!!!!

Insulated for winter, add more lights and i'd think of it has a little bit of heaven on earth!

If Nat was a woman, and attractive, inteligent, rich, witty i'd marry him / her

NS Dev - 22/5/06 at 11:50 AM

Well I like to think I can do the intelligent bit!!!!!!

Not sure about the whole marriage thing tho Mike, don't think it would work.........I mean you won't even go in the car with me!!!

MikeR - 22/5/06 at 07:25 PM

exactly i'd be perfect, you'd never hear me complaining about you going to fast etc........

As for inteligent, should i remind you about fitting your clutch master cylinder and engine placement?

NS Dev - 22/5/06 at 10:34 PM

That wasn't lack of intelligence, that was me always thinking too much to the nth degree over stuff!!!

Got loads of clearance now, at least 1mm

MikeR - 23/5/06 at 05:44 PM

ahem, the inteligent man would have given you an answer in 10 seconds of looking at the problem.

Oh, i did

NS Dev - 23/5/06 at 06:06 PM

Ahem, I'd like to remind you who you've asked for help spannering at the National Finals!

And the engine mounts were designed to prove a point and save wasted cutting and shutting - which they did, sort of

bob - 25/5/06 at 03:14 PM

I moved house/area to get the space for a garage, managed to get 23ft x 10.5ft so its cosey enough.

Cosey with the halogen heater in the winter, TV/stereo plenty of 240v sockets all round

If i can find the pic of stevem's garage you will all think you are lucky, his garage is more like a cupboard i cant believe he built his locost in it.

This has been posted beore but if i had the money
