The problem i used to have with the halfords ones is that they would slide along very easily. i assume this was because the weight of the car was spread along the length of the ramp by the horizontal lower section. May Dad's are better as the vertical angle section come slightly below the horizontal bar and thus grips the ground when they are loaded.

Do yours slide at all?

Thanks for the help!

They have only slid once but i shouldnt have asked my sister to put them against the tyre (she didnt )

Edit - I have often thought they might be better if they had some self adhesive rubber strips underneath to give them more grip

wrap two strips of carpet round the bottom rung and double over.
Tyre runs on carpet first then it wont slide

Tune in next week for another mangos toptip.

^^^ good tip.

I welded short nails to my ramps, work great but I keep getting punctures, do you think a really thick carpet would help and what colour is best?

that's a great tip! Will give it a try

Thanks

Weld a plate to extend the ramps 200mm or so at the start of the inclined bit, that way the the cars weight holds the ramp before it starts to climb.

Low entry ramps are better for our cars and don't tend to slip so easily

you can buy the ramp extensions from machine mart for a tenner. could easily make some tho with some off cuts of steel

My dad came up with the idea to use some packaging straps (you know the nylon/vinyl ones that give painful papercuts.)
Just in half, wrapped around the bottom rung so about about 12 inches of either end is loose, then either stapled, glued or crimped together.

That way the tyre bears on the strap and the ramp cant slip forward

To stop ramps pushing away.

Tie rope to the front and drive over it.
