compressor fittings AAAGHHH!
smart51 - 17/2/09 at 07:43 PM

I'm having a lot more trouble finding compressor fittings than seems reasonable. I'm trying to find something that fits my compressor. It is described as 1/4" BSP, see here. It was a leaving gift from my last company, which was nice.

I bought this coupling (100314) because it said 1/4" BSP bayonet. It looked right and it sounded right. I bought this airline because it matched. The adapter screws on to an air duster and spray gun that claim to be 1/4" BSP. Great. The other end doesn't plug into my compressor. It is too big. The O ring on the compressor is 1/4" ID. The bayonet thing is 5/16" or about 8mm OD. It doesn't fit.

leaving aside for a moment the fact that 1/4" BSP can mean threaded or unthreaded at seemingly any diameter you can desire, What coupling do I need to fit into my compressor? Rescued attachment compressor fitting.JPG

Here's a pic of the coupling. Rescued attachment compressor with fitting.JPG

Might be worth removing the fitting from the compressor and changing it for a PCL coupling which are readily available and match the male coupling you have.

Un screw the coupling from the regulator and repalce it with item 100312.

Some fittings when new are a little stiff.

The knurled ring looks like the sort that needs sliding back, then insert the male bit, then pull the knurled ring forward.

If this is not the case then as the posts above. Just buy the fittings that are readily available to you and stick with that make.
They will all be 1/4 BSP

I use the sort that twist to release.

The couplings fit the air hose just fine, as does the male and female ends of the hose. They are all way too big for the compressor.

Looks like I'll have to buy the other bit and pay the same again in postage

I've just checked my `stock` () and I may well have the connector you need for the compressor - 1/4 BSP , PCL female (socket the same fitting for your air tool)
Yours if you want it - I could post tomorrow ?

U2U sent Claire. Thanks very much.

You could change the quick release fittling,to a shorter stubby type.
It's a lot easier than p*****g about as you would get the fittings to change the tools too!

Not the worst quality!will get you out of a fix

The link above looks like what u need for your compressor. The one on your hose in your top pic is standard pcl couplings.

Id change you compressor to a female pcl coupling. Much easier. I have some if you need one i think if clairetoo hasnt got. U2u me.

The link above also contans a female adapter, next to the coupler,so it would make the hose quick release on either the tool end(with a fixed tool line to the compressor)or a quick release on the compessor meaning the hose would be quick release!

that fitting on the end of the air tool is a quick release PCL type fitting, 1/4 BSP.

Machin Mart sell them.

.... but there are 2 flavours - the ones in MM and a European variant. I do not believe they are compatible.

The European variant is slightly shorter and larger internal diameter for the air - i.e. less restrictive, and looks much like the ones in that ebay link, which is a dam good price BTW. Also ALDI air tools come with this fitting.

If I remember to check, I am pretty sure the 2 are not compatible.

Take your ratchet or airline or whatever to the shop and just say, "I want the other half to this fitting" Sometimes it's the easiest way.

1/4" BSP is simply the threaded part of the connector, it's a tapered thread since it needs to seal.

Thanks to clairetoo for the coupling. Now I can blow dust around to my hearts content.
