Do I need a router.....

... to do this?

Basically cut out a corner in a length of wood to make a door frame.

Router, or a table saw.

I'd probably go with a table saw, or 2 pieces of wood and glue/screw to make the shape you want.

I agree with Hugh, but I am used to doing it for a living, but as the_fbi said, the safer way, if you are not sure is two pieces of timber glued and pinned to form required shape. Barry

Yeah ditto.
- I dont have a table saw, but i do have a router, so i would use that. Or quite likly two peices joined.

If joining them, i would glue well, probebrly only with PVA, but not just screw/nail to deal with doors being slammed etc. (grandmother, eggs)

I found when doing the same job .. the router was the answer, albeit messy

If you have a power plane, they can usually be set to cut a rebate, although not sure what max dims they can cut to.

Alternatively, I think it is a shoulder plane but it takes foreverer, damn hand tools.
