Worlds most expensive road going 205? Never registered (although it has plates?) and as new!
205 T16
i remember oggling one of these before, the engine was laying down behind the front seats and was a space frame jobbie, not much like this one?
so givent the coice of that. or a 36,000 sports car.......... who the hells gonan buy that?
If I had 36k to spend, probably me!
A piece of history.
To homologate the 205 T16 Group B rally car, Peugeot had to produce 200 road-going examples. A photograph showing the 200 cars was famously rumoured
to be a fake. The road variants shared the transverse mid-engine, four-wheel drive layout of the rally car, but had much less power, at around 200 PS
(147 kW). The T was for Turbo; the 16 for the 16 valves that the 4-cylinder 1.8 L engine had.
Outwardly similar to a normal 205, the T16 had wider wheel arches, and the whole rear section lifted up to give access to the engine. Underneath, the
complex drivetrain from the rally car was kept to abide by the Group B rules. All 200 built were left-hand drive, so few reached the United Kingdom,
where only 4 are known to exist. Unlike Group B rivals Ford Motor Company (with the RS200) and Lancia, Peugeot's road-based cars were never
raced.
There is one on pistonheads for £25,000! Can think of other things to spend £25,000 on let alone £36,000, hmmm big supercharger!
mmmmmmmmm
As the 205 in my username suggests I have an extremely large soft spot for the 205 and still miss both my GTIs constantly So much so in fact that I
have considered selling the Indy as soon as it's SVA'd to fund a 205 Mi16 project.
I'd pay the money for a T16 if I had it. It was/is an awesome car and represents the Group B rallying era when the cars and their drivers were
pushing the limits to lunatic proportions. Remeber the RS200, 6R4, Quatro?....How much fun did those engineers, technicians and drivers have?
[I'll get me coat and tissues]

ford RS 200 is much better looking and isnt french
If it's 'never been registered' what's that on the front? I know in France the final set of digits represents the departement it
was registered in. Back of a Michelin map gives you those. I'll take a look later.
And yes, with £36k burning a hole I'd buy it. As already said a piece of history - and one of the ultimate q-cars.

...and Ford is British is it?
RS200 isn't bad looking, just not a chic as the Pug (IMHO of course)

And the engine a "slightly" modified Crossflow by Cosworth. Well maybe a little more than slightly.

RS200 chassis by Arch Motors, bodies by Reliant, badge by Ford
Stratos for me
As said, its a peice of history! Not sure what the spec on the road going ones were, but Im sure they would shame most £36,000 sports cars!
Group B was a great era in rallying and gave us some great road cars as a result, if only 200 of them! Its a shame that todays homologation rules arnt
the same, wouldnt mind a 300bhp 4wd focus!
Was the Focus RS not four wheel drive turbo thingy?
Focus RS and ST are both front wheel drive turbos.
They talked about bringing back a Cosworth badged model and using a 4wd platform and the 5 cylinder turbo that is now in the Focus ST. But never did.
Have to admit, i'm a massive 205 fan aswell!
I have just sold my 2004 Civic Type R to go back to a 1990 205 1.9 GTi....
Love them!
Whilst I like the RS200 / 205 T16 / 6R4 Group B Rally Cars, it would have to be a Lancia 037 for me.
It's Italian AND 20 years old, how much fun would that be, tin worm, dodgy wiring! Wooooo hoooo, HOURS in the garage tinkering!
Mike
Soozy's boss rallies a 6R4..... DROOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!
