Help Wanted / NEEDED! R1 Clutch needed by tomorrow!
Hi All,
I'm posting on behalf of Joe (Welderman) he has his SVA on Friday and has been busy finishing his car, and went to take for a quick spin (on
private road) and upon engaging the clutch, nothing seems to happen apart from a semi-loud knock. If he engages first gear with the rear in the end,
the wheels don't spin.
The clutch is a H/D one from Andy Bates, so should be ok, but Joe is phoning him as we speak, but even if it is/isn't it is doubtful that Andy
could get him a replacement up here in time for his SVA.
So...
Is there anyone around the Preston/Manchester/Cheshire area that has an R1, or R1 clutch that he could borrow just for his SVA Friday???

R1 Clutch
Hi Steve
spoke to Joe earlier today but have not heard back yet, I know he had the coil spring billet conversion fitted that we supplied which is pretty much
bomb proof so suspected a misalignment of the operating lever.
Have left the unit now and dont have Joes number here at home - if you can u2u me his number I will call him to get an update

Is the clutch release lever properly alligned on the spline?? I had to pop the circlip off and align the tiny little arrow properly on Ben's
after refitting the clutch cover. The clutch wouldnt work even 1 or 2 splines out!!

Are you sure he hasn't just "over pulled" the clutch such that the fingers on the end friction plate has got trapped on the end of
the clutch basket fingers? This has happened to several people before.
Just pop the clutch cover off and should be easy to spot and correct

Hi andy just a thought does the coil spring billet conversion have the same problems as the diaphragm r1 clutch if you have to much travel on the
lever causing the outer plate to come out and jam the clutch up?
Edit to say: to slow again but i did ring Steve first

This happened to me on my first drive. Easily done. If you pull the clutch too far, you pull the meshed teeth apart. A few bolts on the clutch
cover and half a dozen more on the clutch plate and you can just pop it back in.

I've got one, but its still in the car so will need removing&replacing if still needed

just got off the phone with him and sounds like he had the over pulled clutch issue - should be sorted now so he can get on with worrying about
fitting those all so important plastic nut covers!
He has passed on his thanks to all for help

Apparantly he is just glueing everything back together and getting an early night in readiness for a final check day tomorrow!

Faith in humanity has been restored, thanks to all who replied, Steve, Dave and Andy good to talk too.
Yep too much travel on clutch.
Picture here of it and it still looks like a work of art Andy it really does.
Will finnish off tomorrow, thanks again to all.
SVA Friday, speedo needs calibrating and reflectors sticking on, a few final checks AGAIN tomorrow and fingers crossed.
Kebab on way home as a treat.

Seems a shame to put the cover back on but might leak a bit if you don't

wow, good sucess story here, well done chaps, good luck with SVA.
Can I ask, do you always need to change gaskets when pulling off the clutch basket cover? also, do you need to drain all the oil before so? if so do
you re-use the oil?
I am sure I will need the barnet clutch plate and spring thingamejob this season the harder i start to push.
really wish sometimes I had built my car, but now I am more then keen to get stuck in with it!

Hey Kriss you dont need to drain the oil. A little drip might come out but most is below the clutch cover. Gaskets are advisable but if its in good
clean condition your probably ok.
