Zetec Sump

I'm looking for a shortened zetec sump, oil pickup & windage tray. Anyone know a cheap source?

was there much modifications?
did you shorten the sump?
What about the windage tray?

Some of the mounting holes line up, the rest need the holes in the sump either drilling or filing, we also needed to drill and tap a couple more.

The sump is made from pressed steel so cutting and welding is easy, we just cut most of the bowl off, blanked it off with a piece of sheet and welded the bowl to the shallower end and drilled a few holes to make up the capacity lost.

As for the windage tray, I searched a few forums and the general concensus is that they're not needed, so we went without, just welded a couple of bafles in there. We have a few thousand miles under the Zetec's belt now with no problems.

It was suprisingly pain-free, we need to refit a couple of times to get an oil-tight seal, if I was doing it again I'd use Ford's black mastic-type gasket sealing goop, supposedly much better.

I forgot to mention, the sump is very short, I tried the original 1.8 ally sump on and it almost scraped along the ground Even the shorter 1.6 version was laughable, this one is "much" shorter.

As said unless you know some one who can alloy weld for beer money the 1.8cvh sump is a cheap option.

Pic is a standard cvh sump on a zetec.

"all" the zetec holes line up with the cvh sump but you will need to add four more. Two in the front bearing cap and two in the back bearing cap.
This is because the sump is not as stiff as the alloy zetec one. the windage tray is built into the sump. So you will need to cut the main cap bolts down or swap them. The dip stick will need a hole drilled into the sump to let it through.

When getting your sump you will need the sump and pick up pipe aswell as the two suport bars.

Removing it from the sierra is a pita

Gearbox needs to come of for acces to the back two sump bolts and the engine needs lifting up around 10cm so it will clear the cross member.

Can you use a CVH sump from an escort if you are going to chop it anyway?

As far as I know its only the 1.8 cvh

If you can find a phase 2 Zetec sump its made in two halves, the upper being ally and the lower half being steel so you can unbolt the lower half and cut'n'shut to suit.
I do have one kicking around but postage might be a tad steep!
