Small Screwdriver Bit Adaptor Thing
Avoneer - 8/3/06 at 09:03 PM

One that you stick your hex sized screwdriver / torx bits in at one end and the other end has a square hole for a ratchet spanner.

Anyone got a spare one?

Commonly found on the top of cheap multi bit/handle kits.

Cheers,

by square hole, do you mean like a 1/4 inch one for a wrench? Ive seen one recently, but then, my tools dont last long

The bit itself is just under 7mm IIRC, and can be stuck straight into a 7mm socket provided you dont need to twist too hard.

Yep, that's the one.

Tried the 7mm idea, but not strong enough.

Someone must have a spare they probably got in a cracker or something.

what you trying to undo? I once got a bleed nipple off by welding a 3' bar onto it, and still managed to reuse the nipple afterwards! overkill or what.

My lil' cutoff tool is perfect for notching a worn head so it can be undone with a flat driver.

I assume you've already tried it in a cordless?

I got them out eventually with mole grips and the tiny bit.

I used to have one of these adaptor thingies, but have misplaced the bugger as I used my small bits on my ratchet all the time.

You should be able to use an imperial socket - think it's about 1/4in.

Yes thats right they are 1/4" but the only draw back with using a 1/4" socket is that thye will not have the magnet or spring clip that the proper bit holders have so the bits keep dropping out.

It's possible to get ratchets with a built in 1/4 A.F. magnetic socket , very similar in size as a 1/4 drive ratchet . VERY useful tool

This is the bugger:

1/4" square to 1/4" hex.

Anyone know where I can buy a cheap and cheerful one?

Only websites I can find want £3 - £5 pound postage.
