Autotune Gemini
Mike Wood - 6/5/18 at 04:35 PM

Hi

Any Autotune Geminis out there for sale please? Complete cars/project vehicles. Would prefer an old Q plate car in need of a rebuild but still complete.

Cheers
Mike

I try to keep an eye out and I’m only aware of one Gemini currently for sale:

Hi Tim

Many thanks

Something like:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autotune-Gemini-1600cc-SVA-and-correctly-registered-No-Reserve/132069949236?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3 D1%26asc%3D50545%26meid%3D987728e01373439cad0474086d3095ae%26pid%3D100013%26rk%3D8%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D371694179399%26itm%3D132069949236&_trksid=p20 47675.c100013.m1986

would be good.

There was a Rover V8 powered one for sale a while back that looked tempting.

How is your build going?

Cheers
Mike

TimC - 6/5/18 at 08:30 PM

Hi Mike,

Build is going okay thanks - finishing touches and professional set-up is all that’s left.

I’ll let you know if I spot anything.

Good luck! It took me a while to track down my Gemini. Since I bought it a couple of years ago I've kept an eye on the market but very rarely see them come up.

Andy S - 29/7/18 at 11:12 PM

As one project finished on eBay another was listed - couple of days to go.

Gemini

I should have bought the Alfa engined project that came up moons ago - did that ever get finished?

And after that another appeared

Gemi ni

No idea if it sold but it needed a lot of work for that money.

I have been storing an Autotune Gemini for nearly 20 years in my workshop. Dry stored on stands after complete respray. This winter once I have contacted the owner (Abroad) I will be taking the body off, and checking all mechanicals, and getting an MOT on it. The current car has a mark 2 escort dash fitted but I have a complete set of smiths gauges/instruments and warning lights from a vintage triumph to fit.

Depending on what the owner wants the car may be sold prior to the work.

Please let me know if anyone would be interested in the car before or after the work.

The car is on an R plate and not a Q plate.

I have to make way for a TR7 V8 restoration in the new year.

Hi

This sounds interesting. What engine and gearbox does it have in it please? What is it registered on the V5 as? Where is the car located?

Any pictures?

Thanks
Mike

lizard2032 - 29/10/18 at 09:39 AM

HI,

It's a 1.6 escort engine with a 4 speed gearbox, I am waiting for the owner to get in touch, but I think it was correctly registered as a gemini.

redturner - 1/11/18 at 02:11 PM

Howard Wilkinson has one with a V8 in it You may be able to contact him through his son who owns Ski Switzerland, on Facebook.....Don't know whether it is road legal but has an MSA logbook

lizard2032 - 6/11/18 at 04:12 PM

I have now been sent the V5 and it shows the make as Autotune Gemini Ford 1599cc.

Mike Wood - 8/11/18 at 01:43 AM

Hi

Thanks for the further info. Any pics please?

Also where is it located?

Thanks
Mike

A bare Gemini chassis has popped up: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autotune-Gemini-Kit-Car-Chassis-new-unused-c-w-wishbones-and-5-link-rear/173597311493?hash=item286b34c205:g:d2IAAOSwMsJbn9c 8

Pity I did not buy the cheap secondhand body that was for sale in the West Mids a few years ago!

Checked with Autotune and they still sell the kit and in modular form, so a new body can be bought (approx £2k, extra for flip front option).

Cheers
Mike

The ad’s a bit misleading as the engine is being offered for sale elsewhere separately?

lizard2032 - 4/12/18 at 09:56 AM

I am struggling to upload the photos of the Gemini in storage. Anyone interested in seeing them please send me an email lyndon@lizard-net.co.uk and i will send them to you.

lizard2032 - 3/1/19 at 03:23 PM

I have finally advertised the Gemini on eBay with item number 202555837307. As stated in the advert I have just sent off the V5 to get the owner details changed, and car will be sold with the new V5.

lizard2032 - 30/6/20 at 11:02 AM

Yes I have finally relisted the car. Later today I will take photographs for eBay showing that there should be everything required to put the exterior items back on the car.

On the V5 its Date of first registration is 06 04 1977 so does this make it MOT and Tax exempt?

Thank you

Lyndon

I though about picking-up the chassis as a spare but that would be a level of catastrophe that I couldn’t contemplate.

My latest news - from last weekend - is here:

I’m due to be on track on Tuesday.

marcosman - 1/3/21 at 10:43 AM

I`ve been trying to locate a Gemini I built many years ago. The reg was PUK...R it was british racing green with a Fiat 1800 twin cam and 5 spd gearbox with minilite wheels and aero screens. Love to know if it is still around, it had a galvanised chassis so won`t have rusted away.

TimC - 27/3/21 at 11:32 AM

A number of the older cars have gone overseas. It could be that yours is one of them.

Hi

Any Autotune Gemini chat - new projects, progress with existing projects? Tim C how is your car?

Cheers

Hi Mike,

My car is semi-prepared for IVA. I got let down by a local fabricator (I need a new manifold to meet the catalysts) and life has since trumped garage time. Hopefully I’ll get it sorted before the year is out and IVA complete before spring. It has been a long list already - a new inspector-friendly dash, handbrake fitting, passenger seat, the ugliest front lights in the world etc etc.

A friend is sat on an unstarted Gemini kit….

TimC - 22/11/22 at 10:12 AM

Interesting aesthetic on this one but build quality looks rather nice...

Is this top wishbone meant to be like this?

TimC - 17/6/24 at 06:33 PM

Believe it or not, those are the standard wishbones, yes.

Somewhat agricultural I agree - mine are very different. That said, never heard of an issue other than the aesthetic one.
