I've decided between now and retirement (4 Years max) I won't replace my L200, but still fancy a change now and again especially when its
not fit to use the Jag.
I've decided to try and find an S1 944, 2.5L 8v, so if anyone has one for sale or knows of one going I could be interested.
I'm looking to spend £1500 - 2000, so I'm not expecting a show winner, and don't mind one needing some work, I've had a couple in
the past and know their strengths and weaknesses, so, any leads welcome.
Cheers.
Pete.
Never had one, but never was a great liker of the 944. The 928 I love, but (without looking) I suspect they're more money and almost certainly more expensive to run.
928 can have hideous running costs, a friend had an S4 928 and it ate tyres and wouldn't pass a Shell station...
been close to buying a 944 a few times, reasonably practical too
good luck and pics when you find one

Gonna have to double your budget as most start about 3k. Even super tatty ones needing lots work seem to fetch your lower budget. Happy hunting!

The 2.5 8V wasn't a fast car and all are now pretty old. I ran a 86 Turbo for 3 years and it cost me a fortune to ran, great car though. The 2.7 16V, Turbo or S2 are a much better bet than the early S1.

I ran a 928 s4 for a couple of years, 40,000 miles, they are bullet proof as long as you keep all fluids changed reguarly and fit a new belt.
Needed a rear wheel bearing and a couple of engine mounts + 1 set of tyres.
Only auto car I have owned which could spin the wheels from a standing start and keep them spinning through 2 gear changes until around 90mph was
achieved, economy was pretty good for 5.0 litre 340bhp engine, it could still hit the rev limiter in top after 175,000 miles, around
170mph.
They are going up in value, sound investment these days and very good to drive although a little small inside. My retriever was quite happy in the
back
The S4 928 wasn't big inside, but as I recall had a kick ass stereo and a marvelous engine. Talking to my folks, I'd forgotten that my mum backed it into a tree and damaged the rear end during the time they had it.
Well I found one, paid less than my bottom price as the engine is down on compression, but have bought a guaranteed replacement, and with shipping
I'm still below £2K, let the fun begin.
