WTD: 1275 Spridget Engine...

Hi.

I'm looking for a 1275 A-Series engine for a Spridget to go in my hillclimber.

I have a 948 in at the moment and I really just can't see the point in trying to tune it in any way where putting a 1275 is probably more cost effective to get a boost in power, plus there's plenty left to come from a standard unit too.

So, does anyone happen to have a 1275 knocking around in the back of the shed or garage, or know of someone who does?

I've seen that one.

It's a bit over priced for a unit that looks like it's been stored in the North Sea for a few years though.

I don't think your gearbox will fit the 1275 if it's like the ones that were in Minor 1000. Check it out or budget for a box as well.

That'll be OK because I have a gold seal box at the moment which can be sold if it doesn't fit.

t'would be nice, and might be on the plans somewhere down the line. But, it's either a lot of machining to arrange or a lot of money to spend with one supplier.

Having said that, there's plenty of other 7 and 8 port heads around that were developed specifically for the A-Series that are a straight fit (though again, bloody expensive!).

Minispares have the rights to the Special Tuning head by Jum Whitehouse. At Ł1800 for the head alone, that will need a lot of other parts too, it's not a cheap thing at all.

Specialist Components reckon that a DIY 16v conversion can be done for about Ł1000, though I'm skeptical as to whetehr this assumes your average DIYer to have the necessary kit in a handy engine machine shop tucked away in the back of the garage!

Redscamp, Marina engine could be an option - are you looking to sell the whole car or just the engine?
