Car/Track Car
HOL - 4/4/10 at 04:45 PM

Looking for a Track car that is road legal.

I sat in a few cars at at Detling today and I need something with floor mounted pedals.
I also have a hankering for a higher powered ike engine (R1, ZX9-10R) or a relatively powerful car engine (Zetec, Saab, Nissan Turbo etc).

So my requirements are:
- Floor mounted pedals,
- Independent Suspension
- Decent Seats
- Full cage or substantial rear cage.

I have a reasonable budget, but obviously want a bargain!!

Ahem

Why f*#$ about? Buy a Westfield and give it to Pro Comp to put a cage/floor mounted pedal box in it.

Whats wrong with live axle btw???

I would have bought this if I didn't already have one:

An XE on TB's will be an effing fast track car.....trust me

or this:

or bung a 1.7 puma engine
on TB's in this:

at least it will be worth somthing when you sell it.....

You really should add Stuart Taylor / Aries and Striker to your list.

For a track car then don't dismiss a live axle. There will be little to warrant IRS on a track.

I would suggest all the market leader sevens are suitable. MK, MNR, Tigers etc depends on you budget and preference. Think wider, does it have to be a seven, I had a brilliant couple of seasons sprinting and track daying a H Reg Vauxhall 16v Astra GTE. Never any problems or break downs and I still see it on the road today looking as good as new and it cost me £650. Barry

Thanks for the feedback,

I think my two choices ARE probably MK Indy and MNR, although the MNR is likely just outside my budget. (Someone on here has offerred me a lovely RT+).

In terms of budget, im currently restricting myself to £7500 at the moment. although for the 'turn key' requirement I could go higher.

The problem I am having is the higher I go, the closer I get to serious Elise/Exige territory.

I could get another Impreza, but I would need a bigger kerb weighted car to tow it.

How much is an MK full cage???

Steve Hignett - 5/4/10 at 04:43 PM

I think they are around 400squid from MK...

No offense to anyone already suggested their own cars, but £7.5k is a hell of a budget for a TD car in my opinion...

I'd be looking at a lower budget build done right. For eg. a good few months ago, Chris Gamlin sold his locost for a lot less than that, and it would have run rings round a lot of the stuff out there.

This car is obviously no longer still for sale, but I'm trying to point out that for your money, you could have a very good, quick car that might not be from one of the popular manufacturers...

(here it is for me to offer a little perspective
