Cheap bas#$d steering wheel
Sorting out a steering wheel and am going to attempt to make the factory mgb one that I have smaller ( the rubber on it is worn out so I have cut it
off and its just a ring of steel around the 3 spokes.
I have not desided as to which way to go yet but will be one of two methoods. Either bend a new ring around it flat or tube steel) after cutting
the spokes down and either wrapping it in leather strip or turn a 2 wood halfs for the wheel and glue them together.
Has anyone bothered to try this or am I wasting my time.
I am trying to use as much of the mgb parts as the car will be registered as a mgb hot rod.

steering wheels, interesting.
If it were me, I would make it so it would give way in a crash; the round tube sounds like it would be too strong.
So cut a disc in steel sheet (3 or 4 mm?); and the same in wood then shape it so it is half round, poplished and varnished.
The forces on the steering wheel are twisty type not push/pull.

Managed to finally get around to it. The wheel rim looks like around 3/16 by 1/2 bar stock bent to a circle and tacked to the 3 spokes. The spokes
would easily bend in an acident. What your your preferences for driving D shaped wheel or round. Either is possible to do and I figure around an 11
inche wheel should give me a bit more room.

are you referring to rim shape or cross-section?
Never driven with anything but a round rim with round cross section.
Incidentally you are aware that SVA doesn't allow holes or slots in the spokes? (You need to wrap those up for the test)

The rim shape. The wheel is dished about an inch or so at the moment- may increase that just a bit.
I am in Ontario Canada so no sva.
Just a basic safety check - brakes lights ect. In and out in half an hour.
