Obscured speedo

I have just cut the front off my speedo and set the mileage to zero, on placing the binacle front on the dash, I think the speedo may be obscured by the steering wheel.

Has anyone had this problem, I know I could set it off centre but I want the symetry for looks Rescued attachment SpeedoObscure.jpg

Cut a section of the wheel out?

I'll get my coat...

Seriously though, Mr SVA didn't seem to mind mine which was based on Mk2 escort instruments. See the pic below, taken at a petrol station on the way to the SVA test in March 2002.

Looks similar to yours to me.

regards
Dave

Mark,

Fit a smaller wheel? But still a Ford one, from a Fiesta or something? Still type approved then.

Cheers

Mark,

I also had this problem, don't know which instrument setup you're using but with the MK11 escort binnacle the speedo and rev counter can be simply swapped around - may also be possible with the sierra unit, worth checking to see.

The sierra wheel definately obscures the speedo, you can see upto 100mph clearly and from 135 onwards (sum ope!). I guess this is a fail. I am going to try my 12" astrali wheel with its solid boss to see if it improves matters, I will have to make a velco pad for SVA, and get a collapsable boss, does anyone know where I can get one with a 4" PCD and a centre bore of 3 1/2". Atrali have a nice on on their site, but I cannot find one online for sale!

I got a boss from The Gearbox in Exeter for my Moutney, but the boss was Astrali
About £15 I think

Sounds like a good price, I'm not in Exeter very often though. I looked on ebay, there is one for a Mk4 escort which looks very similar to the sierra one

If I had seen this thread earlier I could have brought one down . I was in Penzance today. And what a lovely day. Then went to Treen beach. God I work hard!

Been for SVA today (will post later with result) but failed on a few minor points, anyway as for the Speedo, he never mentioned it.

Ideal, but with the 12" wheel, there is no problem!
