Can I fit runners to MK Indy Fibreglass Seats?

Hi guys, I've recently bought an MK Indy with what appears to be the MK fibreglass seats.

However, being slightly short-legged, I was wondering if I could fit adjustable seat runners to these? The reason for asking is because they have a bracket at the back of the seat that fixes this to the rear of the car (presumably to stop the top of the seats flexing or twisting). Fitting runners to the floor of the seat should be straightforward enough, but am worried that the seat design itself may not be suitable for this if I remove the rear bracket?

I've tried a booster/bolster cushion but this pushes me out of the "bucket" and I end up perched a little too high!

Thanks

I'm not sure if those seats are similar to the JK Composites seats that I have, but they also are fixed to the rear bulkhead with brackets. Without the brackets they seats would be much too floppy - even with the brackets, I find there is a certain amount of sideways flex at shoulder level.

Mine are like these:

When I had the JK seats I bought the bases that the seat 'sits' in...thus;

The seat is bonded into the base which strengthens it up and because of the flat base, allows you to fit runners.

If this sounds like too much hassle, why not just move your fixed seat forward and make some new rear brackets?

Hi guys, thanks for your input. Picts of seats are attached (I hope - not exactly sure how to attach pictures to posts) - brookie are these the same as yours?? That sounds promising...

It's not just me that drives the car so unfortunately moving and fixing the seat closer to the pedals not an option this time

Sounds like you need to strengthen the back of the seats. You could e-bay/sell on here the seats and get some that can have runners fitted and do not require the upper support to stop twisting.

40Inches - your seats look as though they have a second skin over the back which reinforces it. They are very nice - did MKSportscars sell you those?

My seats are only single-ply (They are only "smooth" on one side). Perhaps, as Bluemoon says, a support such as this second skin would be required for these to be free-standing

It's looking increasingly likely they'll end up on eBay, but thanks to everyone for helping with the discussion/decision - great forum

They don't look anything like MK seats to me. MK seats are much better quality than those.

In the early days of MK (Martins ownership) he did a single skin seat with a lip at the front to screw to the floor, But nothing like yours, Those of you who read the kitcar mag build will know the ones. from Memory the double skinned ones are a modified version of westfield/caterham ones
