Harness - Pull up/ down - SVA

Hi all,
I have a pair of Sabelt harnesses, but they are too long. Now I want to buy a new pair of harnesses (TRS or Sabelt?).

In the SVA manual it says:
For a static seatbelt there is a manual adjusting device.



I have searched the forum but could not get any clear answer.

Do I need a pull up or pull down waist strap?

Is there enough space to be 'convenient' between the seat and the car??

I'd go for pull-up straps as they are much easier to tighten. Mine pull down and whilst they tighten one-handed pull-ups are on my list for future.
If you are using GRP shell seats space is normally v. tight to go down between the seats and body/chassis which is why most have side slots to pass the belts through.

One thing that's worth checking is how far along the lower strap the adjuster is. On my Sabelts the lower adjuster is very far to the side (almost between the seat and the chassis) so adjusting it means getting out of the car. Not the best but hey

Hence I went with some cheap Sabelt "normal" push-button clip type belts for SVA...

It's also worth saying that if you're planning on putting the belts through the holes it might be worth looking at relatively narrow shoulder straps. 3" straps give good support but if the "neck" holes in the seat are quite close together they can dig into your neck a bit!!! Realistically 2" straps are more than enough in most cases.... I went for 3" straps and am now trying to get Sabelt to flog me some 2" upper straps on their own...

I am looking for 2" belts with normal push button buckle, want to spend around GBP 100,- for a pair (excluding transport to continent).

I understand from Dutch Sabelt dealer that they have pull-up type for westfield cars. However, I don't know what the distance is between the anchor and the adjuster.

I also understand that TRS has the same type of harness. I contacted TRS and they send me a form with technical details, so one can order custom belts.

I hope standard wil suffice, as probably custom belts are way over budget. Anyone experience with standard Sabelt or TRS 'westfield' or 'caterham' harnesses?

I have 4 point Sabelt harnesses fitted to my Indy and they're fine with pull down to tighten on both shoulder and lap straps.

There is enough (not plenty) space to pull the lap straps down and the ends tuck neatly down out of the way.

The shoulder pull downs have to be tucked back under the strap across your chest to stop them falpping in the wind and whipping your chin though

The only comment I would make concerns 4 pont over 5 point harnesses. With the 4 pnt set-up even if you tighten the lap belt first, then the shoulder straps inevitably the shouldr straps start o pull the lap belt up.

If I was building again I'd consider modifying the chassis and fitting suitable seats and 5 point harnesses which would overcome this problem and secure you much much better into the seat/car.

You seem to be a small bloke -> from the pic the seats look ultra-narrow!

I have 'wide' Triton grp bucket seats. At the narrower part of the seat, I think I have 1" of space. I will have to check this space when I get to the workshop (my shed

Hence i went to the blokes from Sabelt Carlisle, got them to get mine made specially for me at no extra cost (and they where cheaper than TRS etc). I got them to reverse the adjuster so its next to the buckle.

1.85m and 75kg.

Once seated I have probably 12 of space either side of me.

Seats are Intatrim Rangers BTW - very comfy.

I've just recieved a pair of Luke 4 point harnesses complete with fitting kit (eyebolts etc) 2 inch straps with 3 inch lap and shoulder spreaders E marked and single push button release for a very very decent price from passion automotive on ebay. U2U me if you need any more info.
