Baby Cub Seats from Midland Wheels
givemethebighammer - 30/9/03 at 07:38 PM

Anyone put these in their car (I think Bob has ?)

Are the comfortable and of reasonable quality ?

Any gripes ?

price has now risen to £120 from the £99 offer. What else could I get for the money.

I only have 15'' of space to play with so I understand my choice is limited.

thanks

If you want a pair of baby cubs i can sell you a pair..

David Jenkins - 30/9/03 at 08:04 PM

I have a pair of these beasties - they are small! When you look at them you'll think that they're nowhere near big enough, but they are comfortable.

To give an idea of their size, I have a standard book chassis, and I have 20 - 30mm space on each side of the seat.

Don't bother with Midland Wheel's seat runners - they're rubbish.

To summarise - I'm happy enough with them, will probably keep them until well after the SVA, then will probably buy something different (or make my own).

cheers,
DJ

If the seats are up to the job. I'll take them at the right price. Why did you not want to use them yourself ?

drop me a U2U with some details on price.

I am regularly in Milton Keynes with work(Wolverton / Stoney Stratford) to be accurate so picking them up is up is not a problem

thanks

Hammer you have a U2U

Mark Allanson - 30/9/03 at 08:58 PM

Midland are also advertising some full buckets with harness holes for £140 a pair in vinyl, they are 47cm's wide which is slightly too wide but may squeeze in - has anyone got any experience?

givemethebighammer - 30/9/03 at 09:51 PM

47cm = 18.5'', four inches wider than the cubs

Cubs are only 14.5'' (36.8cm) wide

I've not got a hope in hells chance of squashing them down by 3 inches to fit my small space

I would like a full bucket seat, but for now I am going to take Vipers offer and fit the cubs. I may well change them later on.

Mark Allanson - 1/10/03 at 09:42 PM

I might be able to squeeze them in, look good for the price Rescued attachment MWS ClubmanSeat.jpg

MK do some really nice fibreglass r500-a-like seats for £90 each (uncovered) and are nice and light (if thats what you're after!) i had a little sit in one and fitted me well, I know what I'll be ordering when the time comes...

Ned.

givemethebighammer - 2/10/03 at 09:33 AM

thanks ned, looking for narrow and comfortable rather than light. However MK's seats do look good.

The Conrodkid bought his GRP ones from the AGM boys who do the WLR car.

IIRC they were cheaper than MK.

How wide are the MX5 seats?

Mark Allanson - 16/10/03 at 10:26 PM

I have a total loss BMW 635CSi at work, and the rear bucket seats look really promising, leather, narrow and bucket. Thing is they are green. I noticed a set on ebay going cheap in Malton, Yorkshire for a quid with only 5 hours to go!!

andyps - 17/10/03 at 07:39 PM

Mark

Do you know how wide the 635 seats are? It seems like a good idea as they look good.

Cheers

andyps - 17/10/03 at 07:40 PM

I seem to have a theme going here don't I

Mark Allanson - 18/10/03 at 06:52 PM

I will measure them up on Monday, but they look about 17"

andyps - 21/10/03 at 07:20 PM

did you get a chnace to measure them yet Mark?

Cheers

Mark Allanson - 21/10/03 at 07:26 PM

The twaddle who owns it let his RHR tyre go a bit soft and lost it on a corner in the middle of town(actually parked INSIDE a LWB Transit!!), it turns out he is third party and has spent the last 2 days at our place pulling the front off to see if he could repair it. I would have severe trepidation about giving it a go with new panels, but he seems to think he can fix it with bits hacksawed of a scrapyard donor!

end up, i could not really go measuring up his seats while he has pi$$ing about with it, but I WILL get the measurements

Mark

I'm trying to put together a group buy for Cobra Roadster 7 seats. These are 17 1/2 inches wide and £150 each including harness holes.

I need a couple more interested parties to be able to buy them at this price. See my posting 'Cheap seats?'

The 635CSi seats are an amazing 20" wide, but look quite soft and squashable. I took a picture with the works cam but my pooter wont read the floppy!

andyps - 22/10/03 at 07:49 PM

Thanks Mark - That is quite a lot to squash in as I plan to build a book width chassis - I guess the guy on ebay will not sell his seats to me!

Mark Allanson - 27/10/03 at 09:59 PM

Eventually got some pictures Rescued attachment 635CSi Seats.jpg

They look good - the ones that were on ebay did not have headrests in the photos the guy sent to me - plus they were a pretty revolting green colour.

The ebay ones didn't sell at all, if anyone wants contact details for some that were offered at a starting price of £1 let me know.

splitrivet - 28/10/03 at 01:42 PM

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post Andy, been in France for a week and a bit.
The MX5 seats are High back grey cloth and just need a clean, they wont fit my 2 inch plus chassis (dont ask why I came up with that size) but may fit a plus 4 with a bit of jiggery pockery or removal of the adjusters.
Best bet is I'll measure em tonight and let you know tomorow.
Cheers,
Bob

dropped into Midland Wheels this afternoon. The black vinyl seats Mark shows (£150 pair) have a steel tubular frame and don't really compress at all. Spent some time trying to work out if I could cut an inch or two out of the centre of the seat frame and reweld. Decided that this would make the seat uncomfortable due to the area you bum fits into being too narrow and the bucket sides digging into your back. Time to make some seats myself I thinks..

splitrivet - 31/10/03 at 10:03 AM

Sorry bout delay again Andy been out the office for 2 days. Those seats are 19 1/2 inches accross the base including the rake adjuster wheel which is removable the inner steel frame for the backs are about 18 inch acros, the squab and rears protrude about 1 inch either side of this but are quite squashy. Also got some 14 inch Alloys off of a Pug 205 with the right offset in good nickwith decent low profile rubber for £80 if there of any use for anyone.
Cheers,
Bob.
