In my quest for more headroom (it is going to be embarrassing having to look OVER the windscreen) I need to replace the existing comfy thick sponge
with something really hard but thin - just enough so the springs don't leave an imprint on my bum
Where can I find something in the UK? Everywhere I try only seems to do the medium density stuff which compresses too easily.
Will Butyl pond liner be any good?
Can you cut what you have in half? I got some from an MOD surplus store and it's really dense stuff, it looks like it's made of foam chips compacted together and I think it was packing material for explosives. £2.50 for a piece big enough to make a seat base and you can cut it with a plain (not serrated) carving knife.

How about the foam rubber garden centres sell as kneeling pads.
I got some from a removal man. they use it to put between the
items of furniture in the lorry. It's about 15 mm thick.
I used it for my interior panels and dash.
It's the black layer between plywood and the vinyl in the piccy.

Give me the big hammer is probably pretty near the mark the closed cell foam used for camping mats is very dense here in oz we have a mob called
Clark rubber who sell the stuff by the meter I bet if you look up rubber suppliers in the phone book you would find the UK equilivent another dense
option would be to laminate it out of wetsuit material another posibility would be the dense foam used as carpet underlay but any way you may want to
make a conmpersite cusion with the layers graduating from hardest to softest .

Let me know what you want, thickness, dims, compressibility, neoprene, rubber, EPDM, PVC, PU, PE etc etc. I work for a supplier of die cut and moulded foams and rubbers into the UK automotive market so if we haven't got it chances are it doesn't exist or is not worth having. We can do solid sheet down to 1mm, foams are usually 3mm+. Adhesive backing is no problem.

I ended up getting some particle foam made for orthopaedic cushions - it cut fairly easy (with a kitchen knife) and I think I have got half a chance
of getting it right on the fourth attempt
Failing that I will have to get my spine surgically shortened so that I can fit in the car!

How about Neoprene? Im sure there will a few old wetsuits going on ebay, if not im sure i could sort you out with one, got a few old ones i dont use
anymore.
You could double it up as it isnt that thick and you might want to put a water proof surface on top like vinyl or something as it holds water pretty

Hippy roll can be glued using spray adhesive to almost anything, and moulded to shape. You can get a 5'x2' roll from halfords for

5' x 2' ...... hmmmmm....... So it IS true that most of Halfords customers are only 5 feet tall - they must be the ones I see walking round
with baseball caps on and getting into Saxo's and Corsa's!
