I have had 4 point harnesses for years and years and they have served me well , but would folks recommend going back to standard lap belts , and if
so, just how do they mount in a 7 type car?. I have checked out my tintop, and although that has inertia belts, I can't see how on a 7 type car
you get the height for the side mounted belt, or are there belts that fit our cars that gets around this issue?.
The issue has arisen only just lately where passengers have really struggled to get the harness to fit, then there is the issue of adjusting it after
that, personally I dont have this issue as I am so used to them now, but it does make carrying folks somewhat a pain, when it takes 10 mins just to
get them sorted out.
You can get inertia 4 point belts
Have a look at Robin hood cars I think it is the 2b that has 3 point belts

IIRC Wasa put his mounts on the rollbar upright when he felt he may fail IVA if his harnesses didnt retract.
Personally I dont think that an inertia belt would be sufficiently effective in the case of a roll over. And unlike the tintop where there are doors to hold you in....
I looked at fitting inertia reel belts and found this but I've not used it and it certainly pre-dates IVA.
Inertia Reel Seatbelt Mounts
John.
Thanks folks, at least I know there is stuff available. I also do have reservations regarding lap type only belts in a open car, I may just remind my
passengers that the next time they start moaning about the faffing about it takes to wear a harness.
Anyone got a lap type only belt?, do you feel safe would you swap over given the chance?.
I must agree with reman,I have inertia belts in my westfield. They are convenient but would not like to test them upside down.My car is only used on the road,if I tracked it a full harness would need to be fitted.
Im looking to swap my 4 point harnesses for inertia reel belts. Harnesses are a great thing for the track but just seem a bit like pointless hassle
on a road car. These cars are quite tough enough to get into and out of especially with weather gear on so having to then waste time adjusting the
harness for every passenger is a PITA.
Does anyone know what inertia belts will fit and what i'd get if i sold the harnesses ?
I can send you a copy from the westfield build manual showing how the belts are fitted if that helps !! U2U me your email address
hope this helps

Oddly enough I asked a very similar question not too long ago... again it was mainly convenience driving my plans.
What I was going to do is mount the inertia reel on the floor with as much metalwork as I could figure out, then use the shoulder loop from the donor
car roughly where a 4 point harness would be. The fixed end would then bolt back on the floor at the hip position, as it would be in a tin top. I
think I'd have to make sure the bodywork didn't catch on the belt at any point.
Slimy38,
I have put a photo in my archives if that helps
Thanks guys.
