Rear View Mirror
RoadkillUK - 5/8/04 at 01:28 AM

I'm looking for a rear view mirror, can someone point me in the right direction as I can't seem to find many and the ones I find are expensive.

Looking for SVA compliant, no screen at all. Thanks all.

I had the same issue (SVA-approved at a sensible price) so I made one out of a standard stick-to-the-window Sierra type...

...if people are interested I'll post a photo tonight, and how I did it. I used a lathe to make parts of mine, but the same principles can be used if you have a hacksaw, drill, file and patience!

Oh - the total cost was £5 for the mirror at the local scrappie, plus a few bits of metal from the offcuts box.

I think the final result looks smart, and the mirror bit is 'E' marked. And you can pick your own mirror height!

rgds,

David

remember that, since we all have n/s wing mirrors, the rear view isnt important for what can be seen, its only there for show (to prove you cant see much thru it). Hence by compliant i guess you just mean the radius' must be right.

I used one off an old beetle, off ebay. I cut the mounting plate off, welded a tube to the top of the dash, then tacked it in. Im gonna use filler, then duck tape, then self amalgamating tape to finish it off with regards to the radius'.

I intend doing something very similar, but using a suitable sized ball bearing to attach to a standard E marked Vauxhall mirror and a 13mm tube and fabricated base.
