After my post yesterday, i have been looking at ignition switches on eBay and noticed that most require a 19mm hole. I have a spare, unused push
button on the dash in a 19mm hole but would be outside of the 127mm steering wheel exemption area.
I cant see it being a problem while the key is not in the ignition but would it fail when it is?
it would fail, yes, because the projections thing is if you were to crash, which sharp bits would do you an injury. you'd be very unlucky to have
a bad crash without the engine running!
anyway, where are you planning on putting it? most of the area to the right of the steering wheel is also exempt, so put it over that way

Put in an exempt area (with a decent amount of cable).
Sometimes these things move themselves to more attractive positions after SVA/IVA. My battery cut-off switch moved miles while I wasn't
looking!

Fit a BIG steering wheel, and hide it under that ??

No need to brag.
Modern keys have big rounded plastic things on them to house the central locking buttons. These would pass IVA even outside the area. Can you not glue one of these cases on your key to make it pass? That way you can have your key where you want it.

No need to brag.
Why not use those bars they fit to the likes of the Cobras around switches? That seems OK with the IVA.

What if you cast a ball of acrilyc (sp?)on the head of the key with appropriate radius???
Maybe a little too big at 38 mm Diameter???
Or a small 8 ball from a toy billiard...
