Hi,
If I were to swap the speedo and rev counter round in the pic below (so the Speedo is on the right) to give a clear view of it do you guys think it
would pass IVA ok? The IVA manual doesn't specify where it should go.
I don't see why it wouldn't but just checking. I just wondered whether it could be argued that the view of it was going to be obstructed.
Having said that the speedo's in most cars are partially obstructed at times depending on the position of the steering wheel.
Gauge Positions
TIA,
Mart.
Depends on the tester.
At SVA mine failed because the tester couldn't see all the numbers.
When I queried it he reckoned the number 80 was partially obscured - "but the speed limit is 70" - "doesn't matter I can't
see it"!
Better to be safe than sorry.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe
The old SVA book says under procedures...
"Capable of being read at all times of the day or night, eg by illumination.
Note. Temporary obstruction by the steering wheel is acceptable"
and under reason for failure...
"A speedometer not capable of being read at all times."
I'd imagine the IVA is the same. SVA did allow "reasonable movment" by the driver to see the fog light tell-tale and maybe that might
be extented to speedo by some testers if they're in a good mood.
Cheers guys.
May move them over to the centre then to be sure.
Mart.
