laquering CF?
blakep82 - 1/9/09 at 08:34 PM

i've seen the youtube videos of carbon mods doing carbon overlay, and the last bit they spray aerosol laquer over the part.

i've got a 2nd hand carbon dash, and it looks like someones been testing sandpaper on it i could have a go at polishing it, but is it maybe worth spraying some clear laquer over it instead and then polishing?

try polishing it first with farecla and t cut. u could also use a fien grade of wet and dry in the first instance

It looks like wetlay. (is it, or is it prepreg?)

It could be a hazy top surface due to moisture getting into the first layer.....

nah, not hazy, def scratches. think it was maybe stored on someones workshop floor for a few years. it was off a RHD car, so that makes it 2002 at the latest.

will try fine wet and dry first, what sort of grade? 1200?

yes sand paper

depending how much resin you have to work with, i would start with some 800 wet then 1000 wet and then 1200 wet and then 1500 wet (if you can find some) and then some farecla G10 cutting compound and then give it a good clean and then laquer, or 2 pack varnish, the best thing is SP 2000 ultravar but it does cost about £80 per 1.5L
