Snap off steering wheel - which one?
iscmatt - 7/7/09 at 07:28 PM

i am looking at getting a snap off steering wheel for that extra piece of mind when parked up, however i'm not 100% on what i am looking for!

I have a mountney Steering wheel and hub attached to a sierra column. Should I be looking at one of these (link at bottom) or is there something else i should be looking at? does anybody else have the same set up as me and have a snap off wheel? Unfortunately i don't have the luxury of a welder so a bolt on is preferable!

ONE OF THESE!

Cheers

what pcd is your wheel? it will either be 100mm or 70mm. just be careful it will fit.

that one in the link is very expensive!!!!

SPA design have a very good reputation and are used by WRC WTC BTTC GP2.

Click on SPA design and then Quick Release Hubs

We got one of these, can't remember where I bought it from but it's been on now for 4 years and the car lives outside (no garage) with no signs of rust.

Can't say if it's any good for IVA though.

I bought one from the states a couple of years ago for about £65 , it's the locking ball type, it has the horn connections too.
Wouldnt be without it now, Stering Wheel looks good hanging on the wall at home.

Fitted pic , but it was not a straight take wheel off and bolt it on , as i needed to modify a boss. Rescued attachment FUEL TANK SENDER FITTING 019.JPG

Check out the new Mountney addition if you're still interested in a quick release steering wheel. They sell an adaptor for circa £50 which fits between the wheel and boss, and has 2 release pins.

I looked at the official snap-off boss, but it retails at about £140 from Demon Tweeks and applications are limited. Despite being key lockable (great if you don't want to take it off all the time), the whole Mountney setup; wheel/boss/release combo costs less than the snap-off unit.

Worth a look, if nothing else!
