Sierra rear brake options?
Just out of interest realy, what other rear brake options are they other than Sierra?
Not concered about stoping power as most of the baking on a front engined car is done at the front. Just looking at it in a weight saving point of
view realy?
Is they anything that can be done to the Sierra set up to loose wieght?
All above bearing in mind that it needs to be MOT`able. (still uses an handbrake)

there either pug 106/saxo fronts or fiesta as i have had both on the rear trying to get the clearence right for the 13's I'm running
pug/saxo discs require the O/D of the hub drive flange reducing to fit

Hi spec do a rear caliper,to match the sierra rear discs.
Great handbrake too.

Having changed my rear brakes to the 4 pot Wilwood Powerlites (kit from Rally Design) I have to say that you have to go a long way to beat the
standard Sierra setup. I doubt there is a significant weight saving either..jpg)

Only real problem with the common setup is brake pedal ratio and master cylinder bore.
Because of lack of available space in the footwell unless you use a pedal set similar to the Cateringvan then the brake pedal leverage ratio is
marginal.
Also the Sierra (and other servoed Ford) master cylinder is bigger a bore than the size Girling used to specify for use with disc brakes without a
servo.

A related question: Is there any difference between the rear brakes from 4x4 Cosworth Sierras and other models?

the disc size is bigger on the cosworth and its vented ( 273mm and vented )

there are only 2 types of rear caliper, one for solid discs and one for vented
cossie 4x4's and granada 24v's got the vented ones everything else got solid ones

Ok thanks... I thought that might be the case. That means I'm gonna need to find some non-cossie brakes if I've got any chance of fitting
13" wheels. Or maybe I'll splash out on some Wilwoods to match the ones I have at the front.

Does anybody know what width the non vented Sierra discs can be machined down to to save weight? How much weight can be saved?

Ive 4x4 rear calipers and they *just* clear the wheel. had to slap the handbrake lever a little as it was catching the wheel and even now I dont think
I can get wheel weights on

Astra alloy calipers on mine there half the weight although I had to change the mounting holes
