ST170 brake discs

I know its overkill, and ill prob get slack for it, but hey, its my kit car...

Just found a bracket on ebay to allow the use of 300mm ST170 discs with S2 RS Turbo Calipers, which are the same as the sierra ones ( might have different part numbers, but the calipers are the same ).

I got the discs for £36 inc vat and delivery and the bracket is £34 inc delivery....

like i say, i know its over kill, but i dont like CD sized brakes behind big wheels, i like to have man sized discs...

You will probably find that you will be massively overbraked on the front and you will have to uprate the rear brakes to a similar degree. Failing that you could install a restrictor valve but that probably defeats the object.
A bias bar will only do so much but careful choice of master cylinder bore size could improve things. Either way, make sure it is balanced or you will not pass SVA.

im sure ill figure out a way to do it.

ill prob upgrade the rears to 273 cosworth vented discs.

also, they are a bolt on job that does not require me to undo the lines, so if its too much, ill simply put the old discs back on.

What size wheels/tyres are you going to use?

I converted my car to ST170 fronts (although hubs/disks/calipers) and they are impressive.

I must agree though, on a car weighing next to nothing they are going to overbrake the front. Also you may have issues getting a pad which warms up with so little to do.

Worth bearing in mind that a Calibra Turbo at circa 1400Kg has the same (type) ATE caliper on a 288mm disk and has no problem stopping from high speed. You're going to weigh less than half that and with a larger disk.

Hope you find a good balance.

i know, i know.

i know its overkill, but its for looks as well as ability to brake. plus i dont have press as hard as i can when using the brakes, i can use less force.

i cant stand seeing a wheel with small brakes...

i have 16inch wheels ( non ford )

It's also additional weight and the worst possible type of weight..... rotational and unsprung. It'll be like driving a gyroscope, or maybe I should say.... It'll be like a gyroscope driving you

Like you say though, it's your car and your choice. And for what it's worth, I actually agree with you.... There's nothing worse than seeing tiny discs through the wheels.

Why not fit some of those imitation discs like these........

new brake discs arrived today! yeay!

much faster than i expected - they said 2 - 3 working days, but in reality not even 24hours!

and for £36 !!!! how good is that!

time to size them up, see if they will fit. to be honest, they dont look that much bigger in the box.

right, well i got the caliper bracket today too and i left work and went straight round and fitted them...

WOW!

they are very impressive and they fill the wheels just as i hoped they would.

here are a few pictures.
