interesting...
this kinda tells you why its worth to dismantle, clean and restore donor parts, even if they eventually get dirty again.
i'm finishing cleaning and restoring the front uprights and brakes and the rear drums.
right now i've discovered that the right caliper bolts are the usual blue 10.9 bolts.
however the left ones are 6.8 and appear to have been cut to size by the previous owner...
this is really dodgey isn't it?

You are using cortina uprights arent you?
Grade 6.8 doesn't exist, they will be 8.8
The grades go:
4.6, 4.8, 5.8, 8.8, 9.8, 10.9, 12.9
The first number is the tensile strength in MPa, so an 8.8 is approx 800MPa, 12.9 is 1200Mpa etc.
The caliper bolts should be 8.8. I bought new bolts and cut them down for my calipers. Perfectly ok.
You can fit 10.9 or 12.9 if you like, but 8.8 is fine.
David
PS make sure you fit lock tabs or lockwire the caliper bolts when you refit them. New lock tabs for cortina uprights are still available from ford (or
were 12months or so ago)
