Mounting escort rack?

I have an escort rack, but dont have any of the origional steel/rubber mounts that it used on the origional car....

What are most people doing as the "Lo-cost" solution to fixing the rack down?

I had thought about using 'U' bolts, but they dont stop the rack sliding laterally enough...

Any pics of your solution?

rally desing sell rubber steering rack mounts (i know this because i ordered some thinking they'd fit my cortina rack)

they also do alloy clamps too, both together should do the trick nicely, then just use simple bolts

you could go my route for the clamps, and hammer out 1" wide steel strip into a U clamp.

not advisable really, I did mine before the summer, and i think i did something to my wrist as its still sore sometimes

Hi just to save a bit of confusion. If using the ally rack clamps for the rack you do not need any rubber mountings.

The ally clamps fit directley to the rack casing with small shims on the under side.

The uprated rubber mounts are for use with the std ford mounting brkts wich are still available at ford dealers.

cheers matt

You can weld a couple of pieces of flat bar to the mounts on the car to stop an Escort rack from moving sideways. Put a nut either side of your rack mount if you use U bolts and clamp it when it is tight. A strip of inner tube cut to width wraps round the rack till you get the thickness you want.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I made some brackets out of 25mm Ally sheet with a holesaw and hacksaw then drilled them and tapped them M8.

Caber

OK I cleaned them up on the lathe, I could have used a file but was feeling lazy
