steering arms too short!
managed to assemble the wishbones and uprights but upon offering the steering rack to its position, the arms are too short!
what can i do? i've searched the forum, but only found the opposite (i.e: long arms)

Mk Engineering can supply the threaded extensions you require, don't weld to lengthen

i gess its this one name: steering rack width!
so I should buy extensions and then if they are too long, cut the ends off and re-thread?

Steeringarms enlarger
You can simply lathe some up with a lathe its a easy thing to do. Guess in Madrid there are several places wich can do that for you.
if you do gonna make them up make sure that the top (nut) enters the balljoint completely and then you adjust its lengt by screwing it more or less on
the arm.

i'm also having problems with the steering rack position. The front of the chassis interferes with the rack!
check this pic: you can see how the arm is too short AND both arms are pointing forwards...
i'm just hopping from one problem to another, opening up a can of worms with each thing...
any thoughts on this?

Wesf27 sorted his by putting a full size nut (as opposed to a half size locking nut) on the steering rack, screwing on the track-rod end (so the
threads line up) and then welding it in place. Should be OK as long as there is at least 12.5mm of the rack end into the track-rod. I'll
probably tack weld mine then have the local welding shop do the bus. just to be sure. Cheers, Pewe

Theres something odd going on somewhere, what with the rack clash and the wishbone lengths.
Looks like you are using GTS bits, have a look in my archive at my early build pics and see if you can see whats wrong.

PS its normal to need to extend the escort rack to fit. Just turn up some extensions, or get someone else to do it

Cheers david, i think the clue to this proble is the bottom rear wishbone mounts, if i were to move them inwards, it would bring the steering mount in
the upright more towards the back, therefore letting the rack fit properly.
however, i've checked some pictures and it doesn't matter if the steering arms are at an angle with respect to the horizontal. its when they
are at an angle with respect to the vertical plane, then bump steer occurs.
i've seen cars that look like this...
its a bit exaggerated but what im pointing out is that the steering arms dont need to be straight (w.r.t the horizontal plane) do they?

was wandering throught the photo archive, and found some very interesting ideas from SVA'd cars.
what about using a certain threaded metal tube (dunno exact size yet but ballpark of 20mmų x 4mm) to cover the distance between the arms and the ball
joint? (its just about 15cm)
it would be female threaded one one side (rack side) and male threaded on the ball joint side...
that would pass sva wouldnt it?
dont wanna point names but check andyhardings photo archive, you'll see what i mean (sorry andy)
