Sierra push in driveshafts
Afternoon all, I have tried a search but have not come up with anything definitive so I'm afraid I have to ask...
I have a Sierra diff (push in type) and two sets of shafts in the garage. Both sets of shafts are push in type. One set has back plates on so is
definately drums and I am informed that the other set came with drum brakes. However, looking at them they are different. The diameters of the splined
bits are different. The set with the back plates still on that came with the diff are about 28mm dia and the others are about 25mm dia. The question
is what have I actually got here in terms of the 2nd set?
Thanks in advance

I tried to find out about this when I bought my drive shafts but nobody seemed to know. The larger ones being from a Granada sounds quite
reasonable.
I have shafts from a 1.6 litre Sierra and these are slightly thinner in the shaft and lighter than the 1.8 shafts but obviously the splined ends are
the same.
I'm still trying to find out how strong the various shafts are - hoping the 1.6's are good enough.

Shaft in the diff
This shows the two shafts. The bottom one is roughly 28mm across the splines and fits the diff. These shafts are also slightly longer than the ones
with the 25mm splines.
This is the rear of the diff if it helps with id. The top mount is 7" and it was bought as a Sierra diff.
Many thanks for any input
Well, that didn't work. Photos are in my archive.

Richard,
I'm running 1.6 push in shafts on my Indy (mild pinto 2 liter injection) without problems. I've given them loads of 1st gear abuse and
they seem to stand up well.....
The smaller (25mm) shafts look the same as the shafts i took from my (early) donor 1.6 sierra.
