Help! Info needed on stripping strut

Hi chaps

Trying to strip a mk2 escort strut so I can cut it down and prepare for use on my Dutton.

I've got the spring compressed but cant find out how to remove it or the insert. At the bottom spring cup it looks like there is a nut that you need some sort of c spanner to turn. Is this what I need to undo.

Here's a pic:

I haven't had an escort strut apart but I would normally say that the top cup should come off when you take the top retaining nut off. Is the cup rusted on to the plunger shaft?

HTH

Mark

I don't remember there being a sleeve above the cup but it does look like it's rusted on. put it on somethig solid ad belt it to break the rust then beat the retaining cup off with your biggest hammer. Or get a 9" grinder and cut through the lot if you only want the stub axle bit, messy though.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
