recommendations for rear calipers
Anyone care to suggest a doner for small lightweight rear calipers with built in handbrake? prefer cast alloy rather than steel.
In these sad nanny driven times its not as easy as it used to be to go nosying round the breakers yards.

The saving in terms of unsprung weight with alloy rear calipers compared cast iron/steel isn't anything like a big as as the saving would be at
the front. Fitting rear calipers from a front wheel drive should make it easier to get a decent brake balance. Ecsort Xr3 and Golf GTi are obvious
candidates but the Rover 200/400 models with rear discs are another source I can vouch for the eficiency and reliabillity of the hanbrake and self
adjuster on the Rover also the cable should be easy to adapt.

Agreed on the Rover calipers
the GTM now has these fitted. Gives an excellent handbrake as well.

so Hi-spec can do them all round now can they? Mmmm
Considering we just saved a bucket load on a top rated can, we could prolly afford some of those afterall

Well, the car on the left has 13" wheels and they definitely fit inside those
I'll get some pics up later.

Agree about the Sierra caliper - piece of cake using Ford cables.

If you have to put them that way up Razman, then don't forget you'll need to take the caliper off, put a block between the pads and bleed
it "off the car" as the nipple is at the bottom.

That didn't occur to me! It would indeed be better to have the nipple at the top wouldn't it - trouble is the handbrake cable run would
not be ideal so I guess I'll have to bleed them as you suggested.
Thanks for the tip

Raz

i found the best way to bleed them is as suggested, but instead if using wood, unbolt the caliper carrier instead, and take the disc and the caliper
off as one. then just bleed the brakes ( after rotating the caliper and discs so the caliper is at the top )
