Cable banjos
I'm not having much luck with my clutch at the moment, the cable banjo broke a while ago and I managed to bodge it, but now the cable has worn
through so I've decided it needs a rethink.
My current banjo looks like this:

but the end piece completely sheared off from the main body, I think this is because I had to drill the hole a bit bigger to get my cable to fit,
which must have weakened it.
I've also seen a design like this:

This might be a better bet as long as the hole is big enough. My cable is about 3mm in diameter but really I need the hole to be about 4mm to account
for frayed ends etc.
Does anyone know where I can get these? If not, any alternatives i could try that don't involve welding?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, Rich, do you have any photos of the ones you got from MAC1? If not, are they the same as either of the pics I posted
above or something different?

Clobber your local AA man, there carry every cable end imaginable in the van, and a couple of reels of cable. The ends are grub screw secured to make
it economic repairing at the roadside
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Yeah I've heard the AA have stuff like that, do you reckon they would actually sell me one or would they just stare at me with a look of
distain?

Just pretained to break down and leve a couple of bits of cable with threaed ends under the bonnet.
They might just stare at me with a look of distain if you did that as well.

Alot of them aa blokes are reasonable if you catch them when they start there shift. Bung em a quid and youl get one.

Most are car nuts, tell you are building you own car out of metal sticks, they would probably be pleased to help

Pete,
I'm using a Capri (3 litre IIRC) adjustable cable. It has a banjo built into it.
Cost about £3 from an autojumble I think.

Thanks for all the suggestions, might go on the hunt for an AA van later. The worst part is the weather is REALLY nice here today, perfect weather for
taking the car out, and it's stuck in the garage 
James, do you have any photos of your cable? Does it fit to a type 9 easy enough? Does it just bolt to the pedal or do you need to weld it on?

Update: managed to bodge the old cable and connector, not sure how long they'll last but on a quick blast round the block it felt pretty
good.
Got a new cable with integral banjo on the way courtesy of MAC1.

Does the cable swivel at the pedal end or is it bolted on tight?. If it's bolted it frays as the angle changes, nephew had this problem. If you
cut the cable with a proper Bowden cable cutter you won't get frayed ends, ask at a cycle shop they usually have one.

Another update
I ordered a new clutch cable from MAC1 less than 24 hours ago and I've got it already! Uploaded a few photos to my archive if anyone's
interested, now off to fit it and go for a burn

Hi Pete, yeah I did have mine bolted tight so it wouldn't swivel. Didn't cross my mind until it frayed and broke and then I realised what
a fool I'd been!
Have just got my new one in the post (see above), so I'll make sure it DOES swivel this time - let's hope this is the end of my clutch
problems. I'm sure something else will break to make up for it though...

Tip for cutting bowden cable without fraying if you have no bowden cable cutters is to use a sharp chisel , place the cable onto an anvil /vice or
other suitable block , lay the chisel across cable at point to be cut and give the chisel a sharp tap. Used this method in a motorcycle workshop even
when bowden cable cutters were available, works a treat

Only just spotted this- sorry!
Yes, it does bolt straight up to the Type 9 (even more so when you do it correctly the 2nd time! ). Indeed, the other end does just bolt to the
pedal.
