Rear Spring rate?
HI all,
I have a set of 16" long x 3" wide springs on my locost and need to sort a bit of suspension bounce as with my springs, it's rock
solid.
 
Description
What poundage rates have other people used for their locosts or any other sevens i guess as they are quite light at the back ?

Have tried a quick look for these springs, but can't find any based on a locost cost.
Where have other peeps got theirs from ?

Hi
The standard answer would be Dfaulknersprings - dot - com
But that sounds an awfully big spring, don't think even they do a 16 x 3.. without being cheeky are you sure?
Be worth dragging a shock off and having a measure, check there's not a load of preload on the spring etc?

Rear Spring
Really, too long ? these rear ones are the shorter of the two sets I have too 
I'll get another measurement done this evening and post the result 
What a numpty, It should have been 160mm not 16"
And yes, I'll drag them off and take them off the shox to make sure what the ID is too.
Many many thanks for the heads up and reminder, you've saved me buying several sets, although i'm sure ii would have checked again before
ordering !!

By eck it does look a heafty thing.. 
What we're looking for is the internal diameter of the spring and the measurement between the shock collar and the locking ring - preferably
with the car on full droop -get those and we'll know - Lol

Yes it's big and meaty, but it came with the car and I'm building a locost so it'll have to do apart from the spring rate anyway

You could cut one in half length ways and have 2 x 8 inch ones. Far from perfect though
Rally design do cheap springs but Faulkners are the best all round supplier. They look like 2.25" ID springs to me. I guess the 3" you
refer to is how you measured it on the OD

Just a thought, is the car fitted with poly bushes? My suspension was rock hard and very noisy due to problems with the crush tubes being too short,
sorting the crush tubes transformed the car

Hi all, to be honest, i think the spring rates are 300lb from memory and i had assumed that it would just be a slightly hard ride, but apparently on
the test drive it was rock hard, I have also turned the damper adjuster both ways, with no change in not being able to push down the rear of the car
at all.
The 3" comment is definitely the O/D , So yes I think 2.25 ID are likely to be what i need, I will certainly take them off though before i get
round to ordering the new springs, as am not sure an IVA tester will take it over any bumps to notice how stiff they are and I can change them while i
sort out registration and other bits i have to do after IVA that also take time.

Don't think they'll make any difference to IVA. If they are as hard as you describe though it's not just the ride it'll affect
but the grip level. Even good springs are relatively cheap so not worth spoiling the car for the sake of that

From memory, my rear springs were 150lb,
I also as said above poly bushed the whole suspension, that alone was one of the best mods and improved the handling, the driving, no more squeaks or
tight spots,

My rear springs are 160lb and i thought they were too soft and tried 180s but they were definitely to hard and went back to the 160lb springs.The
fronts are 275lb .

Hi all, so i stripped them off, 7" long and 2.25" ID so I will be after a set of 170lb springs, 'Falkners' want about £79
delivered, anyone got any of these they don't want ?

I need to have a look at my rear springs. I've wound the suspension up as high as I can but it still bottoms out sometimes...this is new to me.
There used to be a god awful squeaking from the poly bushes so as a winter job I went to strip the trailing arms (de dion back end) only to discover
that the lower arms were fouling on the seatbelt bolt and had bent - there was no way they had ever had full movement!!! Should have spotted it when I
bought the car....ah well!
