Sierra column mounting
I'm in the process of rebuilding an old kit and am ditching the original Triumph steering column which is like a spear! I've managed to
get hold of a Sierra column with switches cheaply and I was just wondering how they are usually mounted. I know the mounting is done using the diamond
shaped part but the holes either side are pretty large, are there bushes or something you can get to go in there?

In my mk1 Sierra the bolts are m10 but the washers are oversized - like penny washers - and thick, perhaps 8mm.
The column bolts to a pair of brackets under the dash, the Haynes chassis design replicates these brackets.
To me this does not seem an ideal mount, but it does allow a fair bit of adjustment and in practice it must allow more than enough clamping force.

Hi,
To be on the safe side, I had two alloy hat-bushes turned on a lathe by a friend from the Haynes forum, so there is no gap between the bolts and the
mounting homes on the steering column.

I assume there's no need to have them metal - they're just spacers. If lathe access is a problem could you get a length of PTFE rod or
similar at the closest size, sand it down and drill for the bolt with a bench drill?

Not in a huge rush, I've still got all of the rear suspension mounts to sort and bulkhead to fabricate, plenty to get on with.
