Oily rear wheels, axle leak
Hi,
I've got an issue with diff oil leaking past the bearings in the end of the axle and running down on to the inner rims of the rear wheels.
I've been lead to believe that years ago SKF made bearings with an integral oil seal, but they are now like rocking horse poo.
What's the best way to seal it up ?
Will I have to pull the half shafts and squeeze some goo in there?
Its an English axle.

They are available but they ain't cheap, I bought a pair and not a lot of change out of a tonne

The ones that are in there are ok as bearings
I just want something to keep the oil in.
Is there some sort of goo i can use, or is it a case of cutting some grease proof paper into a donut shape?

Buy this type of bearing which has the oil seal on its inner face..
Inner
Buy new retaining plates..
Description
Assemble with semi setting Hylomar type sealant..

You need the correct bearing kit, the bearing has a seal built in . Fitting an incorrect bearing without the seal you may as well pour the axle oil
out over the brakes and road!

Think Burtons used to stock these?
a mate had a similar issue on his narrow bodied Westy
