Sierra upright secondary fixing
I am lead to believe that the mushroom insert in a Sierra upright needs a secondary fixing to pass IVA. Any one got pics of what they have done?

Is that only if the spring/damper is attached to the bottom arm? If they are attached to the top arm, surely it's no different to a McPhearson
strut, which do not have a secondary device?

A McPhearson Strut is bolted to the upright, not clamped. Its a requirement on all vehicles for a positive fixing method. Clamping the top wishbone
mushroom insert isn't suitable as it could work loose. It needs to be bolted into place.

They do have a secondary fixing the bolt goes through a hole in a plate welded to the upright, you can see one of them in this picture

All that is require is drilled tapped hole for a locking screw.

That picture looks familiar!!
Yes, it is my car, and it was a fail point on my IVA. I drilled through, and fitted a bolt with a nyloc on the other end. (it was dammned tight to
get the nut on, and I had to tighten it with pliers - the spanner wouldn't go on. - As british trident said, drilled and tapped may be
easier.
Here's a pic....
