What is this?
I just finished one side of my front suspension last night, and realized that I had bought the wrong ball joints (the spindle is upside down), not too
much of a problem, I'll just get the correct ball joints and check to see if I need to adjust it. Then today I notice while flipping through the
archives some people have a rubber of some sort on the ball joints, am I supposed to have this? The only rubber I had was the boot that keeps the
grease in the joint, bt the one pictured here looks more like a bumps stop? Or am I just so tired I'm seeing things that dont exist?

Th evil red X struck again, I'll try and find the photo again, but it looked like a squished rubber bushing between the upper ball joint and the
spindle

Hey Derf
Do you mean the little foam donut that occasionally comes with a "premium" ball joint?
AKAIK they're just an extra deal to protect against road grime -- usually fit between the ball joint and the upright. All the one's
I've seen are too soft to provide any ability to act as a bump stop.
If it's something else, ignore me
Cheers, Ted

The ones I bought came with rubber boots to keep the grease in, but these looked like they could actually provide some comfort, like they were solid
poyurethane

Sounds like a protective cap that your supposed to take off and place in the bin.

Would that be after you've used it then? The only bump stops of any use would be in the damper stem. It's just a dust seal.

yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Ball joints often come with a plastic protective cap ( often milkey white ) which should be removed before fitting. It is there to vrevent damage to
the rubber during storage, handeling..
If it's left in place it will prevent the joint from moving.

That picture is Jaspers car.
It's just a fiver-a-pair set of BJs from Lolocost!
The bulge bit you can see is just the grease boot.
