help with brakes please.

trying to get the rear discs off my sprinter. Got the wheel and caliper off, undone the small countersunk phillips head screw, slackened handbrake off, but cant pull the disc off. Tried the mallet to no avail. What am i missing? Brute force? Pic: Rescued attachment DSCF1381.JPG

if the handbrake shoes are stuck in the drum it can cause problems,(i mean catching on the lip inside the drum as you try to pull the drum off)
i tend to try and lever the disk and hammer the drum part (as this helps loosen the shoes off)

failing that lots of brute force but be prepared to replace the clips that retain the shoes

Might have to wind the shoes back in on the adjuster. Sometimes they catch on the lip. There should be an adjuster inside which you can wind back. Shine a light through the holes and see if you can see a little wheel. Rotate with a screwdriver.

Did these on my mates van not that long ago, trust me sounds brutal but these were solid. broke the disc part off & take the grinder to remainder hub part of the disc. Slot them & separate otherwise you will be bangingaway for ever!

Sounds like it has rusted on - Mondeo's are notorious for the same problem. You could try shocking it off / loads of heat etc. I get the feeling you will end up with the grinder / lump hammer and breaking the disk off. Disks are actually quite brittle so its easier than it sounds.

when i did the v70 i had the gear puller on them and gently whacked around the edge of the disc with the rubber hammer

We used to get them cherry red with sexy ahotalene and chuck a bucket of cold water on it, quite ofter just used to fall off

Obv dont do this on any vehicle like the above with brake shoes you want to reuse!

How many miles did you drive with those CD's

They look a little bit below the minimum thickness

Well done Joel. I was just going to post about how i got mondeo discs off using the angry grinder method. Had a friend with a saab who had to do the same.

It it the near side that is worn to excess? Maybe something to do with rubbish on side of road getting between disc and pads more often, perhaps the caliper slide is sticking on that side. I gues you would have noticed excessive pad wear though before now (unless you were running metal to metal on that side before changing).
