3D geometry files for stress analysis?

I'm constructing a finite element model of a locost, in order to check the possibility of using aircraft aluminium & Hayabusa engine by modifying the structure ( see an example at http://www.jl-optimize.fi/gallery/kuva6.htm
)

Any ideas where to find an IGES geometry to start with ?
Thanks!

Did you write the finite element analysis system or are you using 3d party software. I ask as I am working on some finite element analysis software at the moment and have just completed a CFD solver. Unfortunately the CFD solver is for slow air flows.

I use Noran Engineering's NE/Nastran; same as in my daily work.

I've made a design which I can save as IGES. However, it's not a book-locost: it's an IRS chassis. Slightly longer than book-chassis.
For a jpg-impression, see http://www.mk-indy.nl/images/chassis%20assy.jpg

Awesome work Mave! That's exactly what I have been looking for. If you send the IGES file to the email address on my web page, I'll keep you updated on FEA-modelling & results of your design.

I have this.... see pic.

Its basically a book locost but with a few modifcations here and there. Basically just the mods suggested by Cymtriks.

I can save it as a IGES file.

Do you have winzip. In which case i can email it to you easily. The file is 3.5Mb unzipped but only about400Kb zipped.

The drawing is still a work in progress, so there may be a few tubes slightly out of place but if its useful...use it.

Let me know the results tho!

David

file sent...hope it helps
