Cheap Differential Options
The diffs I have are as follows;
2 x MX5, 1.6lt open diff
1 x XR4x4 LSD diff
I'm going to end up with 350 HP plus so I need something a little more robust. I have heard the MX5 diff can go bang before you hit 200HP and
even less with higher torqe. I am not sure the XR4 diff can handle much more than that.
I believe you can swap in RX7 differentials to the MX5 diff but apparantly its only the 1.8lt diff casing.
I could sell the MX5's and swap in a quaife to the XR4x4 diff, how much can they take?
Or should I look elsewhere, Jag, BMW, Volvo, Merc etc. Anyone have any thoughts and prices. Anyone have anything laying around?
LSD option is a must really, and its not for a 7 so size isn't an issue.
Cheers

What about Subaru? Not sure what kind of BHP they'll take? Prices are good though!

good call will look into it,
That workshop where your car is has a Pratts oil sign on the wall, my boss in the states his father worked for pratts oils and he has a lot of old
signs and memorabilia.
They are very proud of their oil company history. We went to this museum in a small town called
Drumright and they even had documents relating to the construction of our Gulf oil terminal in Milford Haven.

The diff in the picture cost me £60 including driveshafts! I'm not sure if it's an LSD although the guy did think it was. I bought a
brand new one (LSD) for £160!

I had a ride in a supercharged miata when I was in Oklahoma, it had about 220 but had a torsen diff. I just want to future proof it a little bit as
I'm shooting for more than 200

LOL - quickly worked out it was the Final Drive ratio column fortunately. Seems like they are great for the sprinters with 3.9:1 or shorter, but no
good for the BEC boys!! Ah well.
Cheers for the link anyway

There is a couple of options with the mx5 diff,
As stated there are some high powered mx5s around, but the diffs do get a bit fragille after 200bhp. They tend to break around the bearing clamps, or
the pinion bearing.
The diff from the RX7 is almost identical, and you can swap most of the bits around, i think you use the rx7 diff in the mx5 casing basically.
You can also buy off the shelf replacements such as a torsen, but whilst that will stop the cross pin snapping, it wont fix the other failure points.
