how do I fill up my english axle?
Hi,
Is this what I have to get off to fill the diff with oil?
diff oil2
I cant pull it off or unscrew it and dont want to do any damage incase it isn't what I think it is!
If that isn't where I pour the oil in, where does it go in?
Thanks

Well that rusty lump is not the oil filler, it's the vent. It releases pressure in the diff as it warms up, and then cools down. Cheers Ray
Edit to say filler/level plug is, (I think), on the bolt on back plate.

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

There should be a level plug about a 1/4 to 1/3 the way up the axle, it will be in either the rear pressed housing, or in the diff casting itself.

This axle is pictured upside down, but the filler is that big thing on the back.

^^^ wot 'e said. It is the round plut with the square hole at about 11 o'clock postion on the rond back plate.
You can use 1/2 inch ratchet to undo it.
The thinkg you refer to is the breeather - don't break it as they are hard to find; if you do, then a Land Rover axle breather will foit, albeit
with a bit of epoxy to hold it in place.
