i am planning on using sierra uprights on the locost..
i have got sierra locost wishbones from casarva, transit drag links, maxi ball joints, and sierra uprights reamed for maxi balljoint...
my question is how do i know where to weld the suspension brackets..
thanks in advance
has no one else used sierra uprights
or is it a secret...
Get the Haynes Roadster book. That design uses the Sierra uprights and has full detail and dimensions of how to make the necessary jigs.
John
got the front end "finished" today..
had to graft in new front end as all measurements were wrong on the chassis i bought..
need to get the engine and box in now and look at ordering shocks to get the geometry right on the front....

A lot of positive camber and quite bad trackrod angle too.
the photo was taken with 8" ground clearance and no weight in engine bay...
the steering rack angle will improve when the front end is lowered ..
and the camber was not set.
How did you decide the wishbone bracket placement?
made up a mdf jig to hold the two wishbones and upright ..
positioned it on the chassis and welded the front brackets on and then welding in the upright for the rear upper bracket...

i didnt do the job myself. i used the fabricator who built my race cars for me
he measured the distance of the top and bottom wishbone bushes..
and allowed for the lay back of the upright.
then compared this to the haynes roadster set up.. and hey presto..
i hope.. do you think i have done something wrong

the rack lengthvseems to be ok..
i have set it up with 10 threads inside the track rod end....
obviously need to wait till engine in and shocks fitted to get true idea..

Buy yourself a copy of each of the Staniforth books. Seems everyone here uses them and believes every word they read.
Cheers,
Syd.
And what is your 'everyday' posting name on here, Lord Charles? Seeing as your last post was in 2003.
If anyone is a cesspit stirrer, then it is your good self!
Cheers,
Syd.
