Centre-Lock Wheels... Again!

Generally speaking, how many 'pegs' SHOULD engage the holes in the wheel?

I only ask as all the sets I've seen have 8 peg holes in the wheels, but I've never seen 8 pegs on the hub!

how many holes are there in the hub? if you had a huge engine in a huge heavy truck then you might use all 8 but I doubt a normal engine could shear just one.

I have 8 pegs... (hopefully) 850kg and (hopefully) 450bhp.

It wasn't so much the worry of shearing the pegs - it was more about spreading the stress through the mag wheels!

Perhaps the idea with the extra holes is that when you've ovalised some of the holes, you can move the wheel round a bit and engage in some fresh ones?

perhaps the 8 pegs are there to cover different peg spacings like multi hole wheels?

Four on mine (180BHP and 351kg) - the wheels have loads of holes but that's so that they line up with the pegs no matter where the wheel is positioned - for speed of wheel changes.

I have no idea, but, a normal wheel is held on by, (usually), four or five bolts, so it would seem to me that four or five pegs, (if they fitted well), would be the same. The centre nut should have a torque setting high enough to retain the wheel, or at least that's how I see it. Cheers Ray
