After a pure stroke of genius (and chris gs book) i think ive solved my dilemma of how to use my BMW uprights.
On page 77 of the Haynes roadster book, it shows using a dummy strut to get the right geometry on the upright. This made my brain think (thought
somehting was wrong to start with) but all of a sudden i realised, why cant i just bolt the original suspension of the beemer back onto the upright
and chop off at the right height. This will effectively give me the top of the dummy strut shown. I can then figure out a way of getting the mushroom
insert in and bingo we have front suspension.
I hope you all understand what im saying and approve, not often my brain works like this and i hope it isnt a stupid idea
Also does anyone have the dimensions of the mushroom insert to hand? Just the outside diameter? or alternatively the inside diamter of the strut on
the sierra upright? just so i have an idea.
Thanks
Mikkel
Sounds very much like what what has been done with the escort struts on my fury , which are cut down with a steel `mushroom` welded in to take the
upper ball joint .
Sounds fine to me
woohoo approval the old (only 16) brain is still up there then
volvo setup , cut down strut .

And here it is - Escort upright on my Fisher Fury

It's one way of doing it, my brother in laws 5 series based roadster has struts like that.
This thread has another idea.
Cheers
Chris
My Striker uses exactly the same method with an Escort strut.
My magenta uses the escort strut cut down and a flange welded on. then a maxi type ball joint is bolted to the flange. the top wishbone has a tapered
boss to engage the balljoint.

brilliant, cheers all i think i have found my direction with it now.
And chris i saw that secon idea a while ago but decided against it for a number of reasons.
Cheers again

Another example of a Capri uprights on a Striker. Just fitted to mine to replace Sierra uprights which are much heavier and basically crap for
handling.
Capri uprights
As a newbie I hate to pinch the thread, but the Capri upright conversion looks very interesting. Could you give a bit more info on what has been threaded/welded into the 2" tube to allow a ball joint to be mounted. Any info is most appreciated. Thanks, Billydude (Oz)
